Gorentla, Promod Kumar DubeyA convenient and general procedure for the preparation of methyl-4-phenyl-3-oxo butyrate derivatives is accomplished by the treatment of benzyl cyanides with potassium methyl malonate & anhydrous ZnCl2 in EDC. The protocol is applied successfully to various phenylacetonitriles by decarboxylative Blaise reaction [1].
