Benzimidazoles are an important group of heterocycl ic compounds which are biologically active. The mai n objective to synthesized a new series of N-{(2-Meth yl/Mercapto-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)methyl}substit uted benzenamine (1a-1c) & (3a-3c), N-{(2-Methyl/Mercapto-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)(su bstituted phenyl)methyl} substituted benzenamine (2a-2d) & (4a-4d) were synthesized. All the newly synthesized compou nds were characterized by FTIR, 1 H NMR, mass spectral analysis and elemental analysi s. All the compounds were screened for anticancer activity against A549 cell line by S RB assay of which compounds 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 3a, 3b, 4a, 4b, 4c and 4d showed promising cytotoxic potential.
