A simple and efficient method for the synthesis of α-hydroxyphosphonates (3a-j) was accomplished by the reaction of aldehydes and dialkylphosphitesusing 1,4-dimethyl piperazineas a catalystunder solvent-free condition at room temperature.Their chemical structures were characterized by IR, NMR (1H, 13C &31P), Mass spectral and elemental analysis. All the titled compounds were screened forInvitro antimicrobial activity.
