Synthesis and Antibacterial Efficacy of 1-(2', 4'-Dihydroxyphenyl)-3-Aryl-Propane-1, 3-Diones

ABSTRACT
1-(2', 4'-Dihydroxyphenyl)-3-aryl-propane-1, 3-diones 3a-h have been synthesized by employing Baker-Venkataraman transformation on 2-aroyloxy-4-hydroxyacetophenones 2a-h with NaOH in dimethylsulfoxide regardless of pyridine. The structure of the synthesized compounds has been assigned on the basis of elemental and spectral analyses (IR, 1HNMR, 13C NMR and Mass). The synthesized compounds were evaluated for the antibacterial activity against gram negative and gram positive bacteria.
