ABSTRACT

A convenient synthesis of N-[(2-chloroquinolin-3-yl)methylene]benzenamines (1-12) (Schiff’s bases), is achieved in two steps. Acetanilide on reaction Vilsmeier-Haack reagent give 2-chloro-3-formyl quinoline followed by reaction with different substituted aryl amines. All the compounds have been characterized by their melting point, elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR & MASS spectra. The synthesized compounds have been screened for antimalarial activity.

Key words: Vilsmeier-Haack reaction, 2-chloro-3-formyl quinoline, N-[(2-chloroquinolin-3-yl)methylene]benzenamines, Schiff’s base, antimalarial screening.
