The plants belonging to Rubiaceae family are genera lly a rich source of substances of phytochemical in terest, used in traditional system of medicine. Ixora species are generally used as the ornamental plants in gardens and parks. The literature review showed the presence of many i mportant phytoconstituents present in the various p arts of the other species. Hence an effort was made to investig ate the chemical constituents of the different extr acts of the leaves of Ixora chinensis Lam. Freshly collected le aves were shade dried and subjected to successive S oxhlet extraction with different solvents of increasing po larity (petroleum ether (60-80 0 ), ethyl acetate and n-butanol), then the extracts were concentrated by evaporating to dryness. Preliminary phytochemical investigation indicated the presence of glycosides, steroids, flavonoids, t riterpenoids and alkaloids. By performing column ch romatography, pure compounds were isolated from different extract s. The chemical investigation indicated the presenc e of Ixorene (1) and Oleanolic acid (2) from the petroleum ether extract, Catechin (3), Quercetin 3-O-Rhamnoside (4) and Kaempferitrin (5) from the ethyl acetate extract and Rubiothiagepine (6) from n-butnol extract, for the first time. The structures of the isolated compounds (1- 6) was realized on the basis of the spectral data (IR, 1 H & 13 C NMR and Mass)
