Isolation, characterization and antibacterial activity of endophytic fungi from Calophyllum inophyllum L

In the present study, endophytic fungi was isolated from the leaves of Calophyllum inophyllum L. The isolated endophytic fungi was characterized by colony morphological studies and with ITS gene sequencing. It was found to be 99% similar with Colletotrichum sps. The bioactive principle was extracted with ethyl acetate and was analysed for its antibacterial activity against five different clinically important bacterial species, Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 29213), Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), Klebsiella pneumoniae(ATCC 700603), Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 23857), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853). Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis alone were found to be sensitive.
