Abstract

Novel thiazolidine-2,4-dione mannich bases: Synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial activity

A series of novel (5E)-5-arylidene-3-substituted-1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-diones were prepared by treating 1,3- thiazolidine-2,4-dione with substituted aromatic aldehydes in the presence of sodium acetate followed by Mannich reaction with primary/secondary amines. Structures of the newly synthesized compounds were assigned on the basis of elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral studies. The newly synthesized compounds were tested for their in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activity against a variety of microorganism.
