Abstract

Reactions of coumarin-3-carboxylate, its crystallographic study and antimicrobial activity

Author(s): Jigar N. Soni and Shubhangi S. Soman*

Synthesis of various phenyl hydrazide derivatives have been carried out by reaction of various coumarin-3- carboxylate derivatives with phenyl hydrazine. The reaction of coumarin-3-carboxylate with hydrazine hydrate gave novel Schiff base products. The structures of these compounds have been confirmed by X-ray Single Crystal analysis. Mechanism for formation of Schiff base is proposed. All compounds were screened for antimicrobial activity against two Gram positive bacteria S. aureus and B. subtilis, two Gram negative bacteria E. coli and P. aeruginosa and one fungus C. albicans.
