The mixed ligand magnesium complexes; 2-(2-hydroxyp henyl)benzoxazolato(5-chloro-8- hydroxyquinolinato)magnesium(II) [Mg(HPB)Clq] and 2 -(2-hydroxyphenyl) benzothiazolato(5-chloro-8- hydroxyquinolinato)magnesium(II) [Mg(BTZ)Clq] were synthesized. The structural analysis of these prepa red compounds was done by various spectral techniques. The optical properties of magnesium-complexes were studied by ultraviolet-visible absorption and photo-lumines cent emission spectroscopy. The magnesium complexes showed the photoluminescence emission spectra at 500 and 4 94 nm, respectively. The emitted light had CIE colo r coordinates value at x=0.22, y=0.43 for [Mg(HPB)Clq ] and x=0.20, y=0.40 for [Mg(BTZ)Clq]. Density func tional theoretical calculations had been performed to anal yses the three-dimensional geometries and the front ier molecular orbitals energy levels of these synthesiz ed metal complexes. These complexes had efficient g reen light emitting properties so these materials could be use d for various optoelectronic applications.
