Abstract

Synthesis, characterization and antioxidant activit y of Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes containing thiazole moiety

The main objective of the present study is to synth esize a new Schiff base ligand N-(4-phenylthiazol-2 -yl)-2- (thiophen-2-ylmethylene)hydrazinecarboxamide and it s Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes and s tudy their antioxidant activity. Newly prepared compounds are characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1 H NMR, mass, UV-visible and ESR spectral techniques. The element al analysis data and spectral study indicate octahe dral geometry for Cu(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes an d tetrahedral geometry for Zn(II) complex. All the newly prepared compounds were tested for antioxidant acti vity, the Schiff base ligand (L) , Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes showed good activity.
