Abstract

Synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and DNA i nteraction of schiff base curcumin Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes

A series of Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes hav e been synthesized with newly synthesized Schiff ba se derived from curcumin and hydrazine hydrate. The structural features have been arrived from their FT-IR, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, mass, UV-vis spectroscopic studies. The bindin g behaviours of the synthesis complexes towards cal f thymus DNA have been investigated by absorption spectra, e mission spectra, viscosity measurements and circula r dichroic studies. The DNA binding constants reveal that all these complexes interact with DNA via intercalating binding mode with binding constants (K b ) of 5.01 x 10 4 M -1 , 4.61 x 10 4 M -1 and 4.38 x 10 4 M -1 and K app of 6.04 x 10 5 M -1 , 5.72 x 10 5 M -1 and 5.46 x 10 5 M -1
