Abstract

Thermodynamics and kinetics of adsorption of azodye titan yellow from aqueous solutions on natural plant material Saccharum spontaneum

Author(s): A. Lakshmi Narayanan, M. Dhamodaran and J. Sa mu Solomon

Natural plant material Saccharum spontaneum is used for the removal of the industrial dye (Titan yello w)from aqueous solution. The effects of contact time ,temp eratures , initial concentrations and pH values hav e been investigated . Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms ar e fitted on the experimental data of adsorption of the studied system. Depending on the results obtained from the effect of temperatures , the thermodynamic paramete rs ( âÃ?Â?Ã?Â? G°, âÃ?Â?Ã?Â? H° and âÃ?Â?Ã?Â? S°) are estimated. The work also included kinetic s tudy conducted by applying two kinetic models, the pseudo first and second order equations . The resul ts proved that, the studied system follows the pseu do second order model indicated by the agreement between the experimental and calculated values of adsorption ca pacity (qe) at equilibrium .The concentration of the adsorbed d ye is determined spectrophotometerically.
